The on-time performance (OTP) is a comparison of the total amount of time a flight takes pushing back from the departure gate (“off block time”) against the scheduled time for departure.
An average percentage is then calculated per airport along with a 15 minute deviation of the scheduled departure. This avoids negative results caused by air traffic congestion, being an unfair disadvantage considering this is out of the airlines control.
This performance metric is recognized as a global standard, measuring an airlines adherence to their promised schedules and ultimately ranking them by operational efficiency, reliability and punctuality.
